This is my 'Garden of Unearthly Delights' Triptych, an obvious reference to Bosch but deliberately modernised through my use of materials. The piece is mixed media, I used gloss paint, acrylic paint, spray glass paint, collage, and a LOT of glitter, about 75 pots! All the pink, green, light blue and black is glitter but the photo doesn't show it up. The dimensions are 147x50, 210 x100, 147 x50. Big!!
This was another incredibly demanding piece, I started it at Christmas and only finished it on Thursday. The left panel was also missing for a while as it was chosen to go into a group show. I have used lots of old woodcuts for my inspiration, appropriating the motifs of ages gone and updating them and coercing them to my agenda seems a just reflection of the way we exist. my work has also been influenced by philosophical concepts, and the influence of films such as Pan Labyrinth. I am terrible at photographing my work, hopefully I will get someone who can to do it for me soon! Here is a closeup section to give you an idea of the surface finish [link] Comments
ahhh hehe well it's kinda intentional that it's not that obvious, when i was little I had a book with lots of animals and treasure clues amalgamated into the scenery and it really interested me. The photo quality doesn't help as the dark blue glitter doesn't show up to well. It says 'god save us', the piece is to do with the pictorial representations of death and how they have changed throughout the ages.
Very clever..............a strange thing happened as I was reading your reply to my comment. I just read 'god save us' and the t.v. was on behind me and a song was on which said, 'Jesus loves you, you will be saved!' Was that weird or what? Do you think i should take it as a sign?
